JP2 - FALL CO-ED FLAG FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS Boxscore
First Half Second Half Completing a season long mission that began with a heartbreaking playoff loss in June, JP2 outlasted everyone else and captured the CSA Fall Flag Football title. In a very balanced match-up, top seed JP2 defeated second seeded High Maintenance, 12-6 in Flag Bowl II. Trailing 6-0 at halftime, JP2 scored two touchdowns in the second half and sealed the game with an interception with 40 seconds to go. The first half was a true defensive struggle. JP2
came in with the number one offense in the league, but they were completely shut down by
the leagues number one defense. JP2 started the game with the ball, but could only manage
eight yards and punted after going three and out. High Maintenance didn't have much of an
answer. After getting the ball on their own 26, they turned the ball over on downs at
their own 37. JP2's next possession started out with great field position. They could only
advance the ball 15 yards and turned it over on downs at the High Maintenance 22 yard
line. The first 10 minutes had produced no first downs and only 11 offensive plays. First Half stats: The second half was a different story. JP2 dominated the entire half in terms of field position, and it showed on the scoreboard. High Maintenance opened the second half on
offense, but gained only eight yards and punted from their own 18. JP2 took possession on
the High Maintenance 35 yard line and used the short field to their advantage. With the game tied, High Maintenance seemed to respond. They came out on first down and Borders hit Gina Gianfagna for a 22 yard completion to the HM 32. On the next play, Borders hit Eric Ford for 15 yards and HM was on the JP 33 yard line. After two incompletions and a five yard reception, High Maintenance faced fourth and 8 from the JP 28 yard line. On a closed play, HM was unable to convert and turned the ball over on downs. JP took over on their own 28 with six minutes left in a tie game. After two completions from Antokal to Terry Wilson, it was third down and closed from the JP 38. Needing only two yards, Jerrolyn Smith lined up at QB. After rolling left, Smith was able to hit Lenny Swinson for a seven yard completion, before Swinson could be deflagged, he lateraled to Wilson, and Terry Wilson sprinted towards the "cheeseburger" in the endzone. Running on a bum? leg, and with the defense in hot pursuit, Wilson sprinted for the endzone with thoughts of a postgame cheeseburger on his mind and when he finally stopped, Terry Wilson had given JP2 a 12-6 lead with 3:30 remaining.in the championship game. High Maintenance would have one last chance to win the title. After a completion from Borders to Jesensky gave High Maintenance second and two from the 18 yard line, a sack by Joe Koch, turned the tide and gave HM a third and nine from the 11. After a pass interference call gave High Maintenance a first down at their own 20, Borders was picked off at the 40 yard line by Barry Johnson and the championship was all but locked up by JP2. JP2 merely had to run out the clock. After High Maintenance used their last timeout with 32 seconds left, JP2 ran one more play, and fittingly, Championship game MVP, Jerrolyn Smith, took the final snap. Game stats: |
