The Throne championships come on the heels of a very interesting regular season. The biggest moment was the end of the greatest accomplishment in CSA history. In Every Orphus had their CSA record winning streak stopped at 45 games. They were beaten on August 21st by The Despicables, 8-5, in the final game of the regular season. It was the first loss in nearly 15 months and the first regular season loss in over two years. Even with a loss, In Every Orphus finished the regular season ranked number one for the fifth consecutive season. Both In Every Orphus and The Despicables have declined bids to "The Throne" championship.
This will guarantee a new champion. Some of the candidates have had historical seasons.
Other milestones and happenings highlighted the summer season.
Grizzly Cubs played in their 20th consecutive season, a CSA record, after a split in a doubleheader on the last day of the season left them with a 4-4 record it looked like Grizzly Cubs would miss the tournament for the first time since CSA started major championship play, but for the third consecutive tournament The Despicables chose a team to replace them in the playoffs, this season's choice was Grizzly Cubs, who will play in their 6th major championship tournament.
Scared Hitless continues their climb up the all-time ranks. They finished the regular season 10th all-time in runs scored and are tied for 12th all-time in games played. Hitless also made some history this season. On July 25th they turned the third triple play in CSA history, and the first in nearly two years. The last triple play had been recorded on August 10, 2005, by Scared Hitless.
The Replacements have had an colorful season. They tied the season opener 10-10 and tied their last game of the season, also 10-10. It was the first ties in the franchise history. And in the last game of the regular season they became the 31st franchise in CSA history to score 1,000 runs. This came one week after they became the 27th franchise in history to allow 1,000 runs.
In the first Saturday league playoffs in five years Minor Leaguers overcame the #1 and #2 seeds and won the conference championship and the automatic berth in the tournament. In their semi-final game against Free Agents/Peaked, Minor Leaguers scored the 95,000th run in CSA co-ed softball history.
This season Smell the Glove joined Last Call and P-Dub as the only teams to play at least one season in each of the last seven years.
And for the first time the draw has been split into two sections, with two number one seeds.
One of the top seeds is Tough Times, who finished the regular season 6-1-1 and won their first division title in the Thursday night Aviation league.
The other top seed also captured their first division title, Hoping for .500 finished 7-1, their best regular season ever.
