THOSE DAMN DRUNKS!

Helping re-establish the two seed curse, the top seeded Damn Drunks defeated the second seeded Tequila Slammers, 17-8, for the Monday Co-ed Softball championship. Never really tested, Dan Reeves team was led by Championship game MVP, Grant Goodburn.

Goodburn was 3-3, with a single, double, and home run. Driving in five runs, Grant also had three key plays in the field that kept the game in the Damn Drunks favor. D² was also led by the solid outfield defense of Dan Reeves and Lauren Redderson, the pitching of Michelle Way, and DD was able to overcome the guy in the dress for a third straight day.

The Damn Drunks were able to knock off the second seeded Tequila Slammers, and reinstate the Two Seed Curse. For the 18th time in 19 tries the second seed failed to win the championship.

Damn Drunks had to overcome a late deficit to advance in the semi-finals. Down 10-4 in the bottom of the sixth, DD put up eight runs against fourth seeded Return of IRF and held on for 12-10 victory.

They kept that late inning offense from the semis going in the finals by putting a four spot on Tequila in the first and doubling that with eight more in the second. Up 12-3 entering the third inning, DD only had to hold on, and they did just that. Four more runs in the fourth inning opened up a 17-6 lead and they game was all but over.

When game MVP Goodburn squeezed a pop up in foul territory for the final out of the sixth inning, the Damn Drunks were the 2001 CSA Monday Summer League Champions.
