CSA Co-ed Flag Football
All-Star Tuesday The Recap - by Leland
The third All-Star Classic blew away the previous two, and now is the CSA standard bearer for exhibition events. White beats Navy 9-8 on a late three point touchdown. With the conditions muddy, and the weather humid, CSA matched up the Navy Stars against the White Stars in a semi-competitive match-up to cap the Spring season. The Navy Stars were represented by players from Legion of Doom, Super Fun, JP3, Free Agents, KForce, and from the referees, CSA President, Leland Dombrowsky. They took on the White Stars, who were made up of players from Nip O Rodneys, Mourning Wood, Allgood, Last Call, and Illegal Use of the Hands, and their referee representative, Brian Schlossberg. The first half was a close affair capped by a SPECTACULAR, I mean really AMAZING, UNBELIEVABLE, OFF THE CHARTS, 55 YARD TOUCHDOWN hookup from Super Fun QB, Todd Walker, to CSA's President and CEO, Leland Dombrowsky. To put even more pressure on the White team, Walker hit CSA's own Leland Dombrowsky for the two point conversion. Halftime featured the first ever CSA football skills competition. The events were a Longest Throwing competition for both the men and the women, and a team relay race. The winner of the longest throw in the women's division was Karen Huber from KForce. Karen bested Kathy Reiff, from Legion of Doom, who placed second and Tonya Cramer, from Allgood, who came in third. The men's longest throw was won by Ryan Hunter from Last Call. Ryan beat a strong field, including Karl Werl, from Allgood, who was second, and Eric Nelson, from Illegal Use of the Hands, who took the bronze spot. The final event was team relay race. Each team had two men and two women compete. The first runner ran 20 yards from the 40 yard line to the 20, and handed to the next runner, that runner ran 40 yards from the 20 to the other 20, and handed to the third runner, who went 60 yards to the opposite goal line. The anchor runner had to take the handoff and go from the goal line to the opposite goal line, 80 yards. The winning team was Legion of Doom,
represented by Michael Walker, Warren Borders, Kathy Reiff and Jodi Reed (JP3). They had a
time of 27.25 seconds in the open round. This just beat the Last Call team that took
second place, with a time of 27.27. Third place went to the Super Fun team with a time of
27.79 seconds. The team skills competition final tallies (7 teams). The top three in each event scored on a 10-7-5 basis. Tie for first between Legion of Doom and Last Call. Legion of Doom - 17 points The second half of the All-Star game featured game play under modified CSA rules. Bonus points were available for playing with a beer in hand (or in shirt), and smoking was not only allowed, but encouraged. In the second half, touchdowns carried a mandatory touchdown dance, and if a score occurred with a beer in hand, the point value was doubled. The white team was able to get on the board on their opening drive. Jim Daley took a pass from Eric Nelson (both from Illegal Use of the Hands) and lateraled to teammate at the Navy thirty yard line, as the play continued, the ball was lateraled back to Daley at the twenty and he was able to take it to the house. When he completed his touchdown celebration dance, White trailed 8-6. On the 10 point conversion attempt, the Navy "D" stood up and kept the lead. Then the Navy offense sputtered. After moving
the ball to midfield, Navy stalled out and turned it over. Then White took over and
marched down the field. With little time left on the clock, and a ninth player added for
both teams, Nelson hit Daley again for what appeared to be a six point score, but after
reviewing the videotape, their is no evidence that Daley performed the required touchdown
celebration dance, thus the score was valued at only three points. The game MVP's were Jim Daley for the White Stars, who led all (I mean both) scorers with 9 points and Todd Wingfield's CLEATS for the Navy Stars, those cleats enabled Leland to play and score his memorable (if only I remember it, is it still memorable) touchdown. The postgame was as exciting as the game play, with mudslides being performed by Leland, Kathy Reiff, and Karl Werl. Leland's Top 10 from "Drinkin in the Mud" 10. Leslie and Zack trying to dump the beer
cooler on Leland 1. C'mon, you know this already Thanks to everyone who participated. Without all of you, I'd be standing around by myself in the mud. |
