BAIL IS EXONERATED
6/26/03
Chico's Bail Bonds completed their
domination of the Thursday Night Piedmont Park Co-ed Softball league by
routing Kamanawanalaya 12-4, and capping a perfect 10-0 season with the
franchise's first CSA championship.
No stranger to championship contests,
Chico's fell short in the 2002 Summer league title game. In all, this was
the franchise's seventh season with CSA, with no titles to show for it.
With this chance, they left no doubt. They
rallied in the first inning and took a lead they would never relinquish.
Chico's led 4-1 after one inning, sparked by championship game MVP, Shannon
Redd, who went 3-3 and had two assists at second base.
They built the lead up to 8-1 after three
innings, and never looked back. They scored four runs in the first, third,
and fifth innings, and Chico's number one rated defense did the rest. With
solid play by Chico's captain Tonja Davis at first, and crafty pitching by
Todd Walker, the issue was never in doubt.
Chico's held a commanding 12-2 lead after
five innings. To their credit, Kamanawanalaya did not just give up. With the
mercy rule in effect, Kamanawanalaya needed to score at least one run in the
sixth to extend their chances. They took advantage of a lackadaisical play
in right center to plate two runs, but that was all they would get. Chico's
was unable to close the deal in the bottom of the sixth, but they got Kamana
to go in order in the top of the seventh to close out the game and bring
home their first CSA championship.
