CSA 2000 MEN'S FLAG FOOTBALL
TUESDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
LEAGUE NOTES - DECEMBER 5
The regular season ends in dramatic fashion. Impact Players lost the finale against Moore Football, but IP kept the score close the whole game. Moore needed to win by 10 points, and Impact never fell behind by more than 8. Moore had a final opportunity to score a final touchdown with 13 seconds left, but IP made two flag pulls to secure the lo(uh, win)ss.
Blitzkrieg continued their slide with a fifth straight loss, but held onto third place. They will face Wide Right for the third consecutive week in the semi-finals.
The prize for Impact Players is undefeated division champion LAS-TVS.
LEAGUE NOTES - NOVEMBER 29
With the season heading into the last week, it has been a very
exciting, albeit quick, campaign. While the records may not indicate it, the teams are
relatively close in terms of skill level, and it is apparent that the more a team plays,
the more in synch everyone is.
This past week could be termed "Attrition Tuesday". Moore played a double
header with only 5 players. Wide Right played a double header with only 6. Blitzkrieg had
the minimum 7 for their first game, but were reduced to six in game two because of an
injury.
While Wide Right was successful (sweeping both), Blitzkrieg and Moore were not. They
were both swept. This turn of events leads to the following outlook for the final week.
LAS-TVS is still perfect and at 7-0 has clinched the regular season division title.
Wide Right has moved to 4-2 on the strength of a three game win streak. They are
currently in second place, and have clinched a playoff berth. A win in either of the final
two games locks up second place.
Blitzkrieg has also clinched a playoff berth. Even though they have lost their last
four games, the early season success has guaranteed a spot.
Both Blitzkrieg and Wide Right have clinched a guarantee of 2nd and 3rd place and
they will meet in the semi-finals in two weeks. Blitkrieg has guaranteed 3rd over the
Impact Players should they both end up 3-5 because they outscored IP 53-48 in the series
split.
The real excitement comes in the battle for the last playoff spot. With Moore
Football at 1-6 and Impact Players at 2-5 the last spot is up for grabs. The two face off
in the season's final game on December 5th, 9PM. If Impact Players win, they come in
fourth. If Moore Football wins by 10 points or better, they win a tiebreak at 2-6 and they
claim the fourth spot.
If Moore wins by only 9 points or less, Impact Players will claim the final playoff
berth.
This week Wide Right broke the league record for margin of victory with a 29 point win over Moore (41-12).
TIE-BREAKER RULES
In the event that two teams end up with the same record at the end of
the season, the following tie-breakers will be applied in order until one team is declared
ahead of another in the standings. Theses tie-breaks will be used to break ties regarding
playoff berths and playoff position.
(1) - head to head record
(2) - scoring differential in head to head match-ups
(3) - overall scoring differential
(4) - total points scored
(5) - coin flip
LEAGUE NOTES - NOVEMBER 15
The season has two weeks remaining. Remember that no games will be
played next week (Nov 21).
Going into the home stretch it breaks down like this:
LAS-TVS has clinched a playoff spot and will clinch the regular season division title
with a win or a loss by WIDE RIGHT.
WIDE RIGHT is sitting in great position to clinch a playoff spot as well. They simply
need a win, or a loss by the IMPACT PLAYERS to clinch. They also have an outside shot at
the division title. They would need to win out, have LAS-TVS lose twice, and beat LAS-TVS
by 21 or more points.
BLITZKRIEG has stumbled the last two weeks against the division leaders, but they
clinch a playoff berth with a win, a loss by IMPACT PLAYERS, or if they lose to IP by 13
points or less.
The fight for the final playoff spot may very well come down to MOORE FOOTBALL and
IMPACT PLAYERS. Both teams have one win and they face off in the regular season finale.
Their are too many scenarios involving MOORE and IMPACT to list here. After the games
on the 28th are completed, the final week scenarios could be very interesting.
In Week 4 action, new league highs were set in:
POINTS SCORED BY ONE TEAM - 45 - WIDE RIGHT against Impact Players.
MOST COMBINED POINTS IN ONE GAME - 66 - WIDE RIGHT/IMPACT PLAYERS
LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY - 27 - LAS-TVS vs Blitzkrieg 27-0
LEAGUE NOTES - NOVEMBER 8
Halfway through the season, the teams have been remarkably close and games have been competitive. With permanent referees assigned, the rules regarding contact will be enforced with greater vigilance. Repeat offenders will be ejected and suspended.
On the field, LAS-TVS is alone in first with an unbeaten 4-0
record. This is on the strength of a defense that has allowed only 12 points. Blitzkrieg
is solidly in second place at 3-1.
It is starting to look like the battle will be between Wide Right, Moore Football,
and Impact Players for the final two spots in the playoffs. Each team has one win and the
three play each other next week with playoff destinies on the line.
The stats for the first half are also impressive.
MOST POINTS SCORED - GAME - 37 - WIDE RIGHT (10/31 vs Impact Players)
MOST POINTS SCORED - ONE HALF - 29 - IMPACT PLAYERS (11/7 vs Moore Football)
LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY - 26 - LAS-TVS (10/24 vs Impact Players 26-0)
LEAST POINTS ALLOWED GAME - 0 - LAS-TVS (twice)
MOST COMBINED POINTS - GAME - 56 - BLITZKRIEG 35/IMPACT PLAYERS 21
